1. Visibility of system status
The visibility of system status refers to how well the state of the system is conveyed to its users. Ideally, systems should always keep users informed about what is going on, through appropriate feedback within reasonable time.
2. Match between system and real world
Match between system and the real world means that the system should speak the users’ language, with words, phrases, and concepts familiar to the user, rather than system-oriented terms.
3. User control and freedom
Users often choose system functions by mistake and will need a clearly marked “emergency exit” to leave the unwanted state without having to go through an extended dialogue.
4. Consistency and standard
Making sure we maintain consistency through the application so that a user’s interaction with your product never confuses him.
5. Error prevention
Alerting a user when they’re making an error, with the intention to make it easy for them to do whatever it is they are doing without making a mistake.
6. Recognition rather than recall
Users don’t like to remember to much information, the option should be easily visible rather than recalling it from memory. This increases usability.
7. Flexibility and efficiency of use
Make the design flexible to deal with a variety of situation making it easier for both experts and newbies
8. Aesthetic and minimalist
Minimalist design is about making sure the information present in the screen are necessary and useful
9. Help users recognize, diagnose and recover from errors
Error messages should be expressed in plain language, precisely indicate the problem, and constructively suggest a solution. When there is an error you should not panic user , you need to help them recover by suggesting a solution.
10. Help and documentation
Help should be easily available and accessible from anywhere which contains relevant data which the user might seek when using the system.
